We are continuing our series that gives back to the industry answering the question, “What does a vCIO do?” and each article will outline a specific service offering of Outsourced CIO LLC in the day and the life of a vCIO. Some call this “virtual” Chief Information Officer or “fractional” CIO and for the sake of this series, we will be changing the “v” to mean “VALUED” CIO. Because the vCIO creates value for growing businesses who might not otherwise be able to afford a Chief Information Officer. Our topic for today is “Project Specification and Delegation Session.”
This is a quarterly service, estimated time for execution 2-4 hours.
Deliverable: The deliverable is a task list for internal teams for action and accountability. These can also be called Scorecard, which provides 5 to 15 high-level weekly numbers. It also lets you have a pulse and gives you the ability to predict.
Description: Most of the time the internal resources (the client’s people) don’t have the necessary skills to properly plan projects, even if they’re small. The vCIO can help put together the action items and break down the project, so the resource can deal with it. In most cases, for smaller projects, the internal team can execute all necessary tasks, but they may not have the time or expertise to plan projects through to flawless execution. During this process, the necessary information will be ready and can be delegated to the proper internal resource for execution. In Project Management, this is sometimes known as the RACI Model, which is a way to lay out roles and responsibilities on a project. It is also a way to discuss, communicate, and agree upon roles for the projects. RACI is an abbreviation for Responsible, Accountable, Consulted, and Informed.
