What does a vCIO do? Project Steering Committee Meeting

Project Steering Committee Meeting

We are continuing our series that gives back to the industry answering the question, “What does a vCIO do?” and each article will outline a specific service offering of Outsourced CIO LLC in the day and the life of a vCIO.  Some call this “virtual” Chief Information Officer or “fractional” CIO and for the sake of this series, we will be changing the “v” to mean “VALUED” CIO.  Because the vCIO creates value for growing businesses who might not otherwise be able to afford a Chief Information Officer.  Our topic for today is “Project Steering Committee Meeting.”

This is a monthly service, estimated time for execution 2-4 hours.

Deliverable: The deliverable of the service is a meeting memo with tasks and responsibilities.

Description:  For key projects, we have to spend time reviewing the progress and take the necessary corrective actions to push things forward. Most of the time the projects are led by nonprofessional project managers who have day jobs as well. An additional push and accountability help the project leaders to focus on projects better.

The Project Steering Committee is a team inside the organization responsible for the complete Project Portfolio success. We set guidelines, organize and facilitate meetings and follow up on corrective action items. This ensures that IT-related projects are going to have more momentum, buy-in, and overall success.
